Artist Bio: Tina C. Holmes (nee Kalmanson) was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin and now calls Milwaukee, Wisconsin her home. She comes from a family of artists and musicians, with a lineage she can trace back to the Lac Courte Oreilles band of Ojibwe. Her mother and grandmother taught her to knit, crochet, needlepoint and crewlwork at an early age and continues to use this knowledge. With these arts established, she observed the traditional beadwork of her ancestors and self-taught herself several forms of beading, including traditional Ojibwe beadwork, loom work, peyote, brick, and herringbone stitches (bead weaving with a needle). Most, if not all, of her designs are original, and her style ranges from traditional to contemporary beadwork.
